Does She Know It?

Is there any way in which the Stone Roses reunion can be possibly be a good thing? Almost certainly not. And yet ...

We wanted to announce it the day after the riots.

The first thing we played was "Shoot You Down".

Listen hard:

You know it
You show it
And the time has come
To shoot you down
What a sound
When the day is done it'll all work out
I'd love to do it and you know you've always had it coming

i remember them explaining the lemons on the record covers

said it was because lemons can be used to counteract the effects of tear gas

"bye bye badman" is supposed to be addressed to a riot policeman in paris 1968
"i'm throwing stones at you man/i want you black and blue" "choke me smoke the air/in this citrus sucking sunshine", 'soak me to my skin... submission ends and i begin"

Indeed, come to think of it, there's Elizabeth My Dear too isn't there, with the sound of a gunshot towards the end? Maybe Shoot You Down is about Thatcher too ...

wondered where the Roses post would appear. spent most of the 80s gestating and produced their best stuff in 88/89 yet their influence was virtually all in another decade

My thoughts on the Roses return is over here
